Relieve Insomnia w/Herbal Teas

People are increasingly turning towards herbal teas to relieve insomnia. Teas are helpful for calming anxiety, soothing stress, and calming nerves.

You should drink one to two cups of herbal tea approximately 30 to 60 minutes before going to bed. If you wake up in the middle of the night, you can have another cup to help you fall asleep again.

How to Prepare Herbal Tea

Boil desired amount of water in a stainless steel pot. When the water boils turn the heat off. Now add the herbs in an infuser, muslin bag, or tea ball. For a single cup of tea, add one to two teaspoons of herbs. Allow the herbs to infuse for up to five minutes and then mix it with lemon and organic honey or Stevia. Drink three to four cups of this herbal tea everyday and observe the considerable changes in your insomnia symptoms.

Suggested Teas

Chamomile tea -- Use a teaspoon of dried chamomile flowers, or use 2 chamomile tea-bags to a cup of water. Chamomile is a tried and tested herbal remedy for calming the body and inducing mild sedation.

Try a combination of chamomile and valerian herbs to reduce anxiety and induce relaxation. A great tea to relieve agitation on extra stressful days.

You may also want to combine Valerian (30%), Linden (20%), Kava kava (20%), Chamomile (20%), and Catnip (10%).

Other herbs can also be used to make tea to combat insomnia, including lavender and lemon balm. Mountain Rose Herbs has a wide selection of herbs for tea, as well as tea-making supplies.

Try an Herbal Tea Bath

A warm bath infused with herbal teas is another way to promote relaxation and relieve insomnia. Bath teas are available in many health food stores. For a homemade version use four chamomile tea bags in a gallon of boiling water and steep for five to ten minutes. Add this infusion to a bathtub filled three fourths with warm water. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to enjoy an aromatic bath.
